July 1, Weekend Outlook and Beyond!

The 4th of July is fast approaching, and with that comes the routine of last minute grocery shopping to prepare for holiday outdoor festivities.  Unfortunately, it is slowly becoming more certain that even with threat of showers and thunderstorms on Sunday, such a threat may also exist on Monday, possibly placing the plans of many outdoor festivities in jeopardy.  The reason for this traces back to a cold front which will continue slowly to the east out of the Great Lakes overnight Saturday into Sunday.  The computer models have slowed down the timing of the cold front, resulting in the possibility of a passage late Monday versus earlier runs showing the front clearing New England overnight Sunday.  As a result, my confidence for a dry Monday has declined somewhat.  Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be a threat across New England on both Sunday and Monday.

The biggest headline probably has nothing to do with the threat of showers and thunderstorms on Sunday and Monday, it may relate to summer-like heat for the middle to the end of the upcoming week!  This weekend's slow moving cold front may prevent temperatures from eclipsing the 90 degree mark on both Sunday and Monday as it seemed would be the case just a handful of days ago.  However, I think mid-week appears to now hold the potential for 90 degree temperatures mainly across interior Southern New England (especially in the Connecticut River Valley), with temperatures likely climbing only into the 80's further north across Central and Northern New England, as well as in coastal areas.  Another condition to note, it could be fairly humid by mid week from Wednesday onward.  This weekend's cold front could possibly provide some temporary relief from the humidity on Tuesday.  At this point, Wednesday looks to hold the best potential for reaching and eclipsing the 90 mark, mainly for southern areas.  A cold front may arrive over the next weekend to provide relief from this upcoming week's potential heat and humidity.  This, however, cannot be accurately forecast a week in advance.  Please stay tuned for my next forecast!
